1. What is simfy africa?

simfy africa is a music portal that hosts over 36 million songs that you can easily listen to, organise and save at any time and any place. Create playlists, share them with your friends and expand your music repertoire in a fun way.

2. What can simfy africa offer me?

With simfy africa you can listen to a vast amount of music anytime and anywhere – and it is all 100% legal. You can create playlists of your favourite music, access other user’s playlists, and discover new artists by accessing the artist-radio function.
You have the opportunity to share music with friends on Facebook and Twitter. simfy africa also offers the feature of downloading music so that you can listen to it without the need of an internet connection.

3. Is simfy africa legal?

Yes! We have agreements with the all the record labels and publishers who hold the rights to all of the music you can find on simfy africa. Today's music fans value fair and legal music, so does simfy africa.

4. Is simfy africa free of charge?

simfy africa offers a free 14-day trial period and there after you will be charged according to the package that you chose. However, except for data charges; there are no additional costs to get the music you want to listen to.

5. What is streaming and what is the quality of simfy africa's streaming?

Streaming allows you to listen to music via the internet without having to download and save songs on your computer. To enjoy uninterrupted music, simfy africa maintains its streaming quality between 128 – 192 kBit/s – this is comparable to the sound quality of CDs or iTunes.

6. Throttling Internet Connection

Your Internet Service Provider (ISP) can often slow down your internet connection through the use of bandwidth throttling. ISPs use bandwidth throttling in order to regulate network traffic and minimize bandwidth congestion. Bandwidth throttling confines the user’s upload and download speeds, dependent on the protocol being used (e.g. music and video streaming). Unfortunately simfy africa has no control over the rate at which ISP’s throttle their connections which may affect the quality of your streaming experience.

7. In which countries can I use simfy africa?

simfy africa is currently only available in South Africa.

8. How can I change my password and my email address at simfy africa?

Send an email to support@simfyafrica.com, give us your “old” and your “new” email addresses and/or “old” and “new” passwords and we would be happy to change it for you.

9. Do I have to cancel my simfy africa account?

It depends on what package you choose. There are various payment packages that you can choose from which will determine how your account will be cancelled.

If you choose a "Once-Off" package, your account will be cancelled automatically after it has expired.
If you choose the "Automatic Renewal" package, you will actively have to cancel your account.

Follow the following steps to cancel your account:

Go to the website (www.simfyafrica.com) and log in to your account.
Then go to My Simfy > Settings > Account > Click on "Cancel Premium".
A confirmation e-mail will be sent to your registered email address.
Alternatively, you can send us an email (support@simfyafrica.com) before your Premium package expires. Your account will then be cancelled as soon as your particular package ends and it will not be renewed.

Note: We recommend you cancel your account on the simfy africa website if your renewal is pending and/or if you are cancelling your account outside of Call Centre business hours (Monday - Friday: 08h00 - 17h00 - Not operating on weekends and public holidays.).

11. Why haven’t I receive a confirmation email yet?

There could be several reasons for this:
  1. Check if you have entered your email address correctly by logging in with the same email address you just used in your registration.
  2. If you still haven't received an email, check your SPAM folder and make sure your inbox is not full that you can't receive any more emails.
Note: To make sure your email provider doesn't label our email as SPAM, we recommend that you add the simfy africa address (no-reply@simfyafrica.com) to your address book.

12. Why don’t I hear any music?

This could be due to several reasons:
  1. Check that your speaker are connected and turned on.
  2. Check that the audio settings in your operating system aren't accidently on mute.
  3. Make sure the Cookies are activated in your browser settings.
  4. If you still can't hear anything, perhaps you need the latest version of the Flash-Player. If you have an older version, feel free to download the new version here.

1. What features do I have with simfy africa and what does it cost?

As a simfy africa member you have access to our complete catalogue of songs and artists. You can listen and play these songs through the website or you can download apps for your computer or Smartphone enabling you to access all music and playlists where ever you go. 2. How can I become a simfy africa user?

You can become a simfy africa PremiumPLUS user in 3 easy steps:
  1. Signup at www.simfyafrica.com
  2. Select the package and your payment option.
  3. Finally, click on "Signup" to activate your account and all of the features.

3. How is the simfy africa account renewed?

There are various payment packages that you can choose from which will determine how your account will be renewed.
  • Monthly Package: Once-off payment or Automatic Renewal
  • 3 Months, 6 Months or Yearly Packages: Once-Off Payment
If you choose a "Once-Off" package, you will actively have to renew your account.
If you choose the "Automatic Renewal" package, your account will be automatically extended once it has expired.

4. How can I cancel my simfy africa account?

Go to the website (www.simfyafrica.com) and log in to your account.
Then go to My Simfy > Settings > Account > Click on "Cancel Premium".

5. Where can I find my simfy africa invoice?

The first invoice will be sent to you by email. Thereafter invoices can be found on your simfy africa profile.

simfy africa Desktop Player

1. What is the simfy africa Desktop Player?

The simfy africa Desktop Player is an application that allows you to download music and allows you to use all the simfy africa features comfortably and easily. You can search for music, create playlists and also listen to your playlists in ‘online’ and ‘offline’ mode.
Click on the link to install the simfy africa Desktop Player.

2. Can I use the simfy africa Player on multiple computers?

Yes, you can use the simfy africa Desktop Player on various computers, for example at work or at your friend’s house. However, you can’t play music on multiple computers at the same time. You will also only be able to listen to a playlist in “Offline Mode” on the particular computer that you took it offline.

3. What do I need to be able to use the simfy africa Desktop Player?

You can install the simfy africa Desktop Player by using the installation package. You will require the program, Adobe Air to install the simfy africa Desktop Player. Once it has been installed, you will have access to all the simfy africa features.

4. Where can I download the simfy africa Desktop Player?

5. How do I add album to my Favourites?

Find artists by using the search function to get to the artist’s page. Once there, click on the “+” symbol on the album that you want to add to my Favourites. Select the “Add to Favourites” option and the artist will then be saved to “my Favourites”. The same process applies for adding songs and artists.

6. How can I find my kind of music?

You can find artists, albums or songs by using the search function in the upper right-hand corner of the page. Otherwise, you can use the Discovery feature in the simfy africa Desktop Player. You will find categories such as “Rock & Pop”, “Hip Hop & Soul” plus many suggestions and playlists from our editorial staff.

You can also use the “Radio” feature. Here you can choose between “Artist-Radio” or the “Genre-Radio” which allows you to find the specific kind of music you would like to listen to.

7. How do I create and manage my playlists?

To create and manage a playlist, once you have logged into the simfy africa Desktop Player navigate through one of the following options.

Option 1:
  1. Click on “+ New Playlist” and assign the playlist a name (e.g. Top Hits) and then press enter.
  2. If you find a song that you want to add to the new playlist, click on the song (it will be highlighted in blue), continue to hold the left mouse button then drag and drop the song into the playlist.
  3. Done! You can add albums this way too.
Option 2:
  1. You have found a great new album in the Discovery area of the simfy africa Desktop Player.
  2. Click on the album once, hold down the left mouse button and drag and drop the whole album in “+ New Playlist”.
  3. The Player will automatically create a new playlist with the same name as the album.
Option 3:
  1. You have found a great new album in the Discovery area of the simfy africa Desktop Player.
  2. Click on the “+” next to the album and select “Create New Playlist”
  3. The Player will automatically create a new playlist with the same name as the album.
Please note: All the changes that you make to your playlists will be automatically saved by the simfy africa Desktop Player.

8. How can I use the simfy africa Desktop Player when an internet connection isn’t available?

You can make a playlist offline so that you can listen to it without an internet connection.

Select the playlist you want to take offline – it will be highlighted in blue.
Click the button "Available Offline". The button will change from 'OFF' to 'ON'.
Follow the progress of the download in the upper, left hand corner – you will see a bar showing the amount of songs to be downloaded. As soon as the download is complete, a little symbol will appear on the right, next to the playlist.

Alternatively, you can right click on the playlist that you want to take offline. Then click on the option in the list "Make available offline". The playlist will start downloading and the little symbol will appear on the right, next to the playlist.

9. Why doesn’t the simfy africa Desktop Player work on my device?

This could be due to several factors – which are why we added an error message that will inform you about the problems that have occurred.

A common error is being logged in to the application or the website already. To use the simfy africa Desktop Player, you have to be logged-out of all the other simfy africa platforms. It is also possible that you have an older version of the simfy africa Desktop Player. To update your Player, click on "Update" in the yellow error list.

Mobile Applications

1. What are Mobile Applications and where can I download it?

Mobile applications are programs specifically designed for hand held devices. The mobile app enables you to use simfy africa easily on your Smartphone or Tablet. The mobile applications are available at the Apple App Store, the Android Market as well as the Blackberry App World.

2. What do I need to be able to use the mobile application?

You will need to be registered to simfy africa and have an active account. Additionally, you’ll need an Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, Tablet, Blackberry or a Smartphone with Android to be able to support the simfy africa mobile app.

3. Which Android devices support the simfy africa mobile app?

All devices with an Android of 1.6 or higher are able to download and install the simfy africa mobile app from the Android market. If your device has version 1.5 or lower, there may be a software update for it.

The version of your Android can be found here: Setting > Telephone Information > See "Firmware Version" at the bottom.

To find out if there is a software update for you, go to: Settings > Telephone Information > Software Update > Run a search for an update or ask your cell phone provider for one.

4. What do I need to install the simfy africa mobile application on my Blackberry?

You will need to be registered to simfy africa and have an active account. To install and run the simfy africa mobile app on your Blackberry fulfills these requirements:
  1. Your Blackberry should run on OS Version 4.7 or higher
  2. A SD-memory card should be inserted
  3. Your Blackberry should be 3G enabled (UMTS-capable)
  4. Your mobile phone provider's APN settings have to be set correctly. Generally the devices come with the correct settings in place.
Should you experience any problems with the connection between simfy africa and your Blackberry, please contact your mobile phone provider.

5. How can I access my playlists offline?

If you are using an Android Smartphone, follow these instructions:
  1. Create a playlist via the web site, android or simfy africa Player.
  2. Open the Android simfy africa app and log-in.
  3. Click on "Music" below, in the footer and then on "Offline Playlists" in the upper part of the app.
  4. Select the playlists you would like to listen to offline (blue checkmark).
  5. Click "Done" to start the download process.
  6. There is a number next to the "Offline Playlist" button. When this number is gone, the synchronization is complete and the playlist can be accessed offline.
  7. Tip: Download your playlists using WIFI. It is faster and doesn't affect your mobile data costs.

These settings will also help to improve and secure your download:

  1. Using the app, go to: More > Settings > Activate "Display Time-Out" and, if need be, activate "Synchronize via WLAN"
  2. Not using the app: Menu > Settings > WLAN > WLAN Settings > Extended Settings > Change the WLAN Standby Guidelines to "Never"

If you are using your iPhone/iPad, follow these instructions:
  1. Create a playlist via the web site, iPhone or the simfy africa mobile player
  2. Go to the App Store, download and open the iPhone app.
  3. Click on "Playlists", swipe across the name of one of your playlists and a menu will appear – (Star – Favourites, Arrow – Download to Offline Mode, + - Add to Playlist)
  4. Click on the arrow symbol and the selected playlist will be downloaded. This playlist can then be found under "Downloads".
  5. If you return to the main menu you will see a number next to "Downloads". When this number is gone, the download is complete and your playlist is ready to be accessed offline.
  6. Playlists that are available offline will be highlighted with a blue dot.

6. How much traffic is created by simfy africa and how can I change it?

Streaming and downloading mounts to about 1 MB of data traffic per minute, depending on the song. To reduce the traffic when using simfy africa on your mobile phone, we recommend that you download selected songs with WIFI beforehand.
This can be done by simply designating the playlist as "Offline" with a simple click. The blue-highlighted song will then be played from a local copy. When you switch the simfy africa Smartphone app to offline mode, all data traffic is on hold until you decide to switch it back to the online mode.

This prevents expensive connection costs, your mobile internet connection won't be slowed down if your provider's volume is exceeded, and you won't experience any loss of connection if your reception is weak.

7. Can I use the mobile application on various Smartphones?

Yes, the use of the simfy africa mobile application on various Smartphones such as Apple iPhone, Blackberry or a Smartphone with Android is generally possible. Refer to Questions 4 and 5 to see features needed on your Smartphone to use the simfy africa mobile application.

8. What happens when another simfy africa user logs in on my mobile app?

If another simfy africa user, with a different account, logs in on your simfy africa mobile app, your playlists will be lost but not completely deleted. Logging in again with your details will resynchronise your account and your playlists will be restored.
Please note: If you log out of simfy africa on you iPhone or iPad, your playlists will be permanently deleted.

simfy africa Website

1. Can I download music from the website?

No, downloading music from the website is not possible, but as a simfy africa user you can use the simfy africa Desktop Player or the simfy africa mobile application to download music and playlists. The songs will automatically synchronise with your Smartphone.

2. Can I upload my music?

It is not currently possible to upload your own music. This feature is in development for the simfy africa Desktop Player.

3. Can I link simfy africa with Facebook?

Yes, with the social media feature on simfy africa you can now easily show your friends what music you are listening to. On the contrary, you are also able to see what music your friends are listening to on simfy africa. Recommend music to your friends by following the next easy steps:
  1. Select the song you want to share
  2. Click on the "+" next to the "Play button" of the song
  3. Select "Recommend to friends"
  4. Select the medium on which you want to share the song on i.e. Facebook, Twitter, via Email or simfy africa and hit "Share".
  5. The song or playlist is then automatically shared on the social media medium.

4. How do I add artists to my Favourites?

You can add artists to your Favourites list by clicking the star icon located next to the artist’s name on his/her/their page.

5. How do I find my kind of music?

The artists on simfy africa are grouped by similarity. You can find music related to your preferred music type, on your favourite artists' pages. You can also look at the playlists of other users where your favourite artists appear, to find more of the music that you like.

Additionally, you can look for new music, categorised by genre and trending music in our "Browse" area.

6. How do I create and manage my playlists?

To create and manage a playlist, you have to be logged in and complete the following steps:
  1. Go to the upper left hand side of the page and click on "My Simfy" > "Playlists"
  2. Click on the button "Create a new playlist now" and a window will appear where you can enter a name for your playlist.
  3. Enter a name and click on "Create Playlist"
  4. Your empty playlist is now ready to be filled with songs. Use the search function to find albums or individual songs.
  5. Click on the newly created playlist at the bottom of the page
  6. Add a song to your playlist by clicking on the desired track or on the "+" symbol.
  7. Your song will appear in the playlist.
  8. If you want to remove the song, click on the trash can symbol next to the song. Confirm the deletion by clicking on "Delete" and the song will disappear.
  9. Save your changes in the Player by clicking on "Save Playlist" under Options

7. How can I find my friends and add them to my list of friends?

Click on "My Simfy" and then go to "Friends". You can search for friends by their first or last names. If you are already friends on Facebook, you can add them by clicking on the "Invite Facebook Friends" button.

You also have the option to invite them via email. It is also possible to find users via the artists’ pages. People listening to a certain artist are shown on the right hand side of the page.

8. How can I listen to the playlists of other simfy africa users?

You will need to be registered to simfy africa and have an active account. You have to be friends on simfy africa with the user whose playlist you want to listen to. Playlists that other users have saved can be found at the bottom left of the user’s profile page. You can either listen to it from directly from their profile or load it onto your playlists.

9. How can I share my playlists with friends?

You can share your playlists with your friends by using Facebook, Twitter, Email or simfy africa.
  1. Go to simfy > Playlists
  2. Click on the "+" symbol next to the playlist that you want to share with your friends.
  3. Click on "Recommend to Friends"
  4. Select the option how you want to share your playlist and click on "Share"
  5. The playlist will be automatically shared on the social media that you selected.
Alternatively, you can click on the symbol that looks like an envelope and then follow the same process as above.
